Have you ever tasted Goat/Lamb blood fry? If not, here is the right time to give it a try on this awesome dish and experience its unique taste. Today, I am going to show you how to cook mutton blood fry recipe in your kitchen.

You may have thought about whether the mutton blood is good or bad. Surprisingly, yes, it is perfectly fine to eat goat/lamp blood, but not in raw form. Many of our ancestors eat mutton blood for their healthy lifestyle.

Usually, people make this mutton blood fry for breakfast. It’s great to have this dish with bread.

Alright, without further ado let’s see how to cook mutton blood fry in Sri Lankan style.

How to Cook Mutton Blood Fry?

Ingredients
  • Mutton Blood – 650g
  • Shallots/Small onion – 200g
  • Green chili – 2 or 3
  • Dried red chili – 4 or 5
  • Curry leaves – 2 or 3 sprigs
  • Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tablespoon
  • Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – As you want
  • Cooking oil – As you want


Notes

1. Some butcher shops add salt with the blood. Ask them when you buy it. If they have already added the salt, you don’t need to add more salt.
2. Cook the blood as soon as bring it to the home. Don’t leave them for so long, even in the refrigerator.
3. You can increase/reduce the number of green chilies and/or dried red chilies according to your taste.

Instructions

1. Place a skillet on the stove and add mutton blood, turmeric powder, and salt.

2. Mix, stir, and cook under medium flame until blood turns dark brown as shown in the picture below. Using a spoon break the blood into a crumble texture. Mix and stir constantly to avoid burning. For me, it takes about 12 minutes. Once done, take off the boiled-crumble-textured-mutton-blood and leave it aside for final preparation.

3. Cut the shallots, green chilies, and dried red chilies into small pieces as shown in the picture below. Besides, get ready with curry leaves, fennel seeds, mustard seeds, and cooking oil.

4. Heat the oil in the skillet and add onions. Sauté them till onions turn translucent. Then, add curry leaves and sauté them for 15 seconds. Now, add dried red chili and sauté them for another 15 seconds. Then, add fennel seeds and mustard seeds. Sauté them till onion starts turn to golden. Finally, add green chili and sauté them for 15 seconds.

5. Now, add boiled-crumble-textured-mutton-blood and give a good mix till all are combined.
