Easy Prawn Varai Recipe
Ingredients
- Prawn/Shrimp – 125g (After peeling off the skin)
- Grated coconut – 100g
- Onion – 50g
- Red chilies – 4 or 5
- Garlic paste – ½ teaspoon
- Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon
- Crushed cumin seed – ¼ teaspoon
- Water – 50ml
- Salt – As you want (KETO people use the Himalayan Pink Salt)
Instructions
1. Take the prawns, peel off the skin, and rinse them well.
2. Get ready with dried red chilies, onions, turmeric powder, salt, and water.
3. Likewise, get ready with grated coconut, crushed cumin seeds, and garlic paste.
4. Take the skillet and add the prawns. On top of that add dried red chilies, onions, turmeric powder, salt, and water. Give a mix and switch on the flame.
5. Cook covered under medium flame till all the water evaporates or the prawns boiled well enough. For me, it takes about 4 minutes. Once done, let them cool down to room temperature.
6. Now grind them to a paste as shown in the picture below. You don’t need to grind them to a smooth paste.
7. Place the skillet over the stove and add the ground paste, grated coconut, crushed cumin seeds, and garlic paste. Mix everything well until totally combined. Now switch on the flame.
8. Cook this mixture uncovered under medium flame for 5 to 7 minutes. Mix and stir frequently to avoid burning.
9. This is how to make a delicious prawn varai recipe. Serve and enjoy this Sri Lankan style Prawn Varai with your friends and family.
Notes
1. I used small onions/shallots which makes this dish more special. If it is hard to find shallots use the large onions.
2. If you don’t like spiciness, reduce the number of dried red chilies according to your taste.
