This delicious devilled chicken is one of the famous dishes in Sri Lanka. You can taste this dish in any Sri Lankan restaurant and bar.

Mostly, Sri Lankans make this simple devilled chicken dish as a bite while having some alcohol at parties. Also, you can have devilled chicken with rice or puttu or bread.

Best Deviled Chicken Recipe

Ingredients
  • Chicken – 750g
  • Onion – 250g
  • Tomato – 150g
  • Banana pepper – 100g
  • Green chili – 4 or 5
  • Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
  • Lime – ½
  • Garlic paste – 1 tablespoon
  • Minced garlic – 1 tablespoon
  • Ginger paste – ½ tablespoon
  • Minced ginger – ¾ tablespoon
  • Red chili flakes – 1 tablespoon
  • Crushed black pepper – ½ tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Tomato sauce – As you want
  • Salt – As you want
  • Cooking oil – As you want

Notes

1. You can adjust red chili flakes, black pepper, and green chili according to your taste.
2. I used chicken with bones, but you can use boneless chicken.
3. Usually, people just fry the chicken and make the devil. But, I personally like to boil the chicken before frying them. So that you can feel the tenderness even inside the chicken pieces.

Instructions

1. Clean, rinse, and cut the chicken into medium-sized pieces. Add ginger and garlic pastes, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix and let them marinate for 30 minutes.

2. Cook the marinated chicken covered under the high flame until all the liquid evaporates or 15 minutes, whichever comes first. In halfway through open the lid and give a stir to avoid burning.

3. Fry the cooked chicken pieces to golden as shown in the picture below.

4. Cut the onions, tomatoes, and banana peppers into medium-sized pieces as shown in the picture below. Also, half the green chilies and mince the ginger and garlic. Besides, get ready with curry leaves, lime, tomato sauce, red chili flakes, and crushed black pepper.

5. Heat the oil in a pan and add minced ginger, minced garlic, curry leaves, and green chilies. Sauté them for one minute under high flame.
