Sri Lankan Fish Sothi with Mango Recipe | Meen Sothi

There are many ways to prepare the dishes with the help of fish. This time I am going to show you how to make the best fish sothi with mango pieces.

Normally, people make an ordinary fish sothi which means, a sothi without mango or any other unique ingredients. But I recommend you try this sothi in your kitchen. Mango pieces give a little sourness to the fish sothi which gives a different taste experience in your tongue.

It’s a unique and tasty fish dish. If you have a chance to get a green mango, don’t miss this fish sothi with mango recipe. I am very sure that you will love it.

Basically, Sri Lankan people make this fish sothi with mango for lunch, but you can have this for dinner as well.

Sri Lankan Fish Sothi with Mango

Ingredients
  • Fish – 4 or 5 pieces (Recommend to use fish head parts)
  • Mango – 1 (Medium Size)
  • Onion – 50g
  • Green chili – 2 or 3
  • Curry leaves – Few
  • Salt – As you need
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Thin coconut milk – 250ml
  • Thick coconut milk – 100ml
Instructions

1. Cut the fish into your desired size pieces and wash it well.

2. Take a green mango, wash it, and cut into small pieces as shown in the picture below.

3. Take some curry leaves, slice the onions, slice the green chilies and keep it aside.

4. Place the cooking pot on a stove. Add fish and mango. Then add sliced onions, green chilies, and curry leaves. Also, add turmeric powder, and salt as you need.

5. Add the thin coconut milk and mix it well. Now switch on the flame and close the pan with the lid.

6. Cook covered under medium flame for about 10 minutes till the slices of mango turn to tender.

7. Now take off the lid and add thick coconut milk. Stir the liquid frequently for 2 to 3 minutes.

8. Taste the sothi and add salt if needed.

Notes

1. I recommend you use the fish head part as well which gives an extra taste to this recipe.

2: You can reduce the number of green chilies.

3: I used instantly made coconut milk from grated coconut. If it is hard to find grated coconut, you can use coconut milk powder or bottled coconut milk.

4. If you are not using a green mango, you should add a tablespoon of lime juice at the end.
