Sri Lankan Style Fish Cutlet Recipe | Step by Step with Pictures

I am going to demonstrate each and every step with pictures.

Fish cutlet is one of the tastiest snacks, people often make it for lunch or dinner or even for an evening snack.

You can prepare this recipe not only with fish but also with chicken, beef, mutton, or veggies.

Mostly, people use tuna or canned fish or tin fish for their easiness, but I am going to show you this recipe using the real fish.

Sri Lankan Style Fish Cutlet Recipe

Ingredients
  • Fish pieces – 250g
  • Potatoes – 350g
  • Finely chopped onion – 50 to 75g
  • Crushed ginger – ½ tablespoon
  • Crushed garlic – 1 tablespoon
  • Green chili – 4 or 5
  • Chopped curry leaves – 2 sprigs
  • Grounded black pepper – 1 ½ teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ teaspoon
  • Egg – 1
  • Bread crumbs – 100g
  • Salt – As you need
  • Cooking oil – As you need
  • Lime – ½
Instructions

1. Clean the fish pieces and add water, turmeric powder, and salt.

2. Cook covered under the high flame until done with all the liquid or the fish fully boiled as shown in the picture below. For me, it takes about 8 minutes.

3. Let the fish pieces cool down. Then carefully take off the flesh without any bones as shown in the picture below.

4. Boil the potatoes, peel off the skin, and crush them with your fingers as shown in the picture below.

5. Finely chop the onions, green chilies, and curry leaves. Also, finely crush the garlic and ginger.

6. Get ready with the ground black pepper, salt, and lime.

7. Take a large bowl and add the fish, potatoes, onions, green chilies, curry leaves, ginger, garlic, black pepper, and salt.

8. Mix everything well until all combined. Finally, add lime juice and give one last good mix as shown in the picture below. Taste and adjust salt if needed.

9. Now make the cutlets in any shape you want.

10. Take an egg, add some salt and beat it well. Also, take the breadcrumbs.

11. Soak the cutlet one by one in the beaten egg.

12. Then coat the cutlet with breadcrumbs.
