How to Make White Puttu | All-Purpose Flour Puttu Sri Lankan

Have you ever thought about how to make white puttu at home? If yes, you are in the right direction. Today, I am going to show you the best way to make Sri Lankan style all-purpose flour puttu recipe.

A few weeks ago I have posted the red rice flour puttu recipe which went viral. So this time I am planning to show you the best way to make white puttu.

Even though white flour is not good for health, white puttu is comparable tastier than other ones.

Usually, Sri Lankans make this white flour puttu for breakfast or dinner and sometimes for lunch.

Alright, without further ado let’s see how to make white puttu recipe in Sri Lankan style.

How to Make White Puttu | All-Purpose Flour Puttu Sri Lankan

1. This Recipe + Mutton Curry + Dhal Curry
2. This Recipe + Shrimp Curry + Shrimp Fry + Shrimp Varai
3. This Recipe + Sugar + Jackfruit/Mango/Banana

How to Make White Puttu

Ingredients
  • Steamed all-purpose flour – 750g
  • Hot water – 625ml
  • Salt – As you need
  • Grated coconut – As you need
Notes

1. Few people use the toasted all-purpose flour, but I recommend you use the steamed one.

Instructions

1. Take the steamed all-purpose flour. Also, add salt in the hot water, give a stir, and keep aside.

2. Add the salt-mixed-hot-water little by little while mixing the flour. Mix well to small thick pieces as shown in the picture below.

3. Now put those on a flat surface and use a sharp edge cup or tin to make them crumble, as shown in the picture below. Besides, get ready with the grated coconut.

Make Jaffna Style White Puttu

4. Place the puttu steamer on the stove and boil the water until the steam comes out from the top of the steamer.

5. Now take off the top of the steamer and fill that with the dry crumble mixture and grated coconut as shown in the picture below. I fill that in the following way. Grated coconut -> dry crumble dough -> grated coconut -> dry crumble dough -> grated coconut -> dry crumble dough -> grated coconut.

6. Cook till steam comes out through the top of the steamer. For me, it takes about 2 minutes for each batch.

7. Once done, unmold the puttu as shown in the picture below.
